Getting Started

Welcome to Wednesday Wisdom - my new weekly newsletter where I'll write short, actionable, and helpful tips for your GAMSAT study.

At this time of year, getting started is probably front of mind - whether you are preparing to sit again, or gathering information for your first sitting.

Consistency is key

I am a big believer in being consistent. All of the sections are about depth of understanding, and to build understanding you need to be doing things frequently.

Make sure anything you identify as an important skill you are practicing regularly until you truly understand it.

To improve your consistency, GAMSAT study really does need to become a habit. Here are 3 things that are very helpful for this:

  1. Be realistic - if we succeed early in a behaviour change, it is far more likely to become a habit. Don't overcommit and fail. Set realistic goals (even 15 minutes) and build on them over time.

  2. Block time - it sounds simple but just get a calendar and at the start of the week block out time when you have nothing on and will do your study. Having it in the calendar increases your accountability.

  3. Create schedules - once you've identified things you want to study, try to think how long you would need for that goal and allocate it to certain blocks in your calendar. This makes you far more efficient and targeted.

That's your dose of Wednesday Wisdom - let me know what you think about these tips!
